He peers say he is “ahead of his time” but the 18-year-old Gospel Rapper says that God is just getting started with him. Born January 13, 1989, Brandon was always fascinated with music. His father who introduced the young artist to gospel at an early age says, “Brandon would always sing through the house”. At the age of seven Brandon wrote his first song called “Why should I worry?”, strange for a young kid to be thinking like this but Brandon realized that he would be a tool for God. Not knowing that his hobby would become a dream, Brandon stayed focused on schoolwork and sports. Brandon who love Basketball as well, played for the New Jersey Flames, who won three AAU State Championships and made National Tournament appearances. Even while on road trips Brandon would write poetry and songs expressing his love for God.
By the time of his first year in High school, Brandon lost his love for basketball and began to work more on his writing abilities. Hanging up his Jordan’s hurt a lot but, Brandon understood that God had a greater work for him. Now going by the name B-Luv (which means, no matter what you go through in life you should always Be Love, because Gods Love is true!)was apart of a up and coming rap group called Detour. Rapping Gospel was nothing new to the young teen. B-Luv wrote songs and performed around New Jersey. Detour also appeared in the McDonalds Gospel Fest and the “We Got Next Talent Search”. After completing there first studio album the Group went their ways to peruse other dreams of their lives. B-Luv knew his music aspirations were not over. Reuniting with an old Friend Shaun Darling, B-Luv would continue his music dream with a solo debut. Shaun a.k.a. “Droc” introduced B-Luv to David “Dman” Beverly and B-Luv’s dreams began to come true.
Now a Senior in High School, B-Luv is the Senior Class President, Peer Leader, President of D.E.C.A. and has 3.5 Grade Point Average! Becoming a role model at an early age was not an easy job, but B-Luv had wonderful examples and teachers to help him make smart choices. On February 16, 2007,B-Luv released his highly anticipated album “I Am What I Am”. He feels the title of his album was appropriate because no matter what people say about you, or who they want you to be, you can only be yourself. With lead off singles Such as Christ Like and So Focused, B-Luv controls his audience with strong words and makes people ask questions about there own lives and the state their salvation is in. “War with the Church”, a controversial song by title, B-Luv addresses every issue you can possibly think of. Even at a young age, B-Luv understands that the church is not perfect, but until issues exposed they will continue to grow.
B-Luv’s album is packed with emotional songs such as Pray for Me, Because Of Your Grace, If I Die Tonight and Angel, which he dedicated to his friends Courtney and Myles Davis who passed away 2 years ago. B-Luv also addresses the females in tracks such as Kick It with You and By Your Side. “Are We Meant To Be” a ballad that B-Luv wrote over the summer, addresses his love for his special someone. The album is packed with songs that will make your feet bop and your head move.
