Details:
The Upshot Trio was formed in the spring of 2006 when members John Arstingstall (guitar), Patrick Creel (drums, percussion), and James Ross (bass) first got together to create music. The trio from Lexington, KY felt an immediate connection and sense of respect for each others musicianship. Arstingstall and Creel played together in the University of Kentucky May jazz ensemble, and Ross has performed with jazz combos at UK and as a freelance bassist with a number of accomplished local musicians. With similar backgrounds in jazz, funk, and jam-band music they were able to create an original sound that has been described by local press as “cocktail funk.” The Upshot Trio began gigging around Lexington, KY in the summer of 2006 playing a mixture of original tunes and covers. The Upshot Trio also has received attention from the local press. They were the featured music article in the October 26, 2006 issue of Wildcat Weekly and landed an article in the January 2007 issue of Chevy Chaser magazine. The trio recently recorded their debut album, Cocktail Funk, at Group Effort Studios in Crescent Springs, KY. The album consists of seven original tunes collaboratively written by all three members. Cocktail Funk will be released in early 2007.
