The Muleskinners Association is not your typical bluegrass band that tends to play clean, predictable breaks with virtuoso musical talent. Rather, they’ve developed their own style of South Mississippi “Swamp-billy” (cause they ain’t got no hills in South Mississippi) gospel music chocked full of high energy, lots of strings, tight harmonies and lyrics that’ll make you wonder if Shakespeare’s still kickin’!
Norman Cupit (fiddle/guitar/vocals), Lori Cupit (upright bass/vocals), T.J. Golson (guitar/vocals/harmonica), and Donna Golson (mandolin/vocals/tenor banjo) all reside in Wade and Hurley, Mississippi and began playing together following a mothers day skit at their church, Caswell Springs United Methodist, aptly named “Oh Mother, Where Art Thou?”
The group loves to play old traditional gospel but has a knack for crafting brand new sounds and songs with an extremely old-timey feel into their acts. They regularly play bluegrass festivals, church and civic events, and love the “regular crowd” at their CSUMC monthly concerts where they’ve been performing since 2006.
The group recently finished their second recording project, Remedial Bluegrass, which includes 15 songs consisting of totally original lyrics and mostly original music. Get in, sit down, and buckle-up cause you’re about to get skin’t!
