COUNTRY: Modern Country, COUNTRY: Country Rock
Details:
This born & bred Texan grew up in a small town near Waco…Flat, TX to be exact. His young dreams consisted of two things: Playing for the Dallas Cowboys & Music. Luckily for the industry, music took the lead. “Looking back, I’ve realized music was always a big part of my life. But it wasn’t until the first time I stepped on stage that I realized it was what I was supposed to do.”
In Texas he opened for such Country Music legends as Chris LeDoux, Gene Watson, Gary Stewart & Joe Diffie; and in 1999 made the move to Nashville in an old blue van in hopes of following his dreams of being another great Texas artist. He began like most new Nashville musicians, by playing cover tunes on Broadway, but soon realized that to be taken seriously he needed to write more. The more he wrote and performed, the more passionate he became about songwriting and becoming a part of the music industry.
Lonny has a sound you could say comes from a blend that is not of Nashville standards. When you hear Lonny you may think of Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, Jack Ingram, Dwight Yoakam, Pat Green, old trucks & whiskey….and of course TEXAS. “Growing up I listened to a wide variety of music. I’ve jammed to everything from Charlie Rich to Guns –N- Roses!” His influences give him an edge to his sound that you don’t hear in a lot of music today.
Lonny’s latest release, “Changing Lanes” has 11 cuts on it, 10 of which were written or co-written by him and definitely have a Merle/Earle feel but with an original “sound”. One minute you’re listening to an introspective ballad like “Same ‘Ol Me” and the next you’re speeding down life’s highway in the title cut “Changing Lanes”. “My philosophy on songwriting is I should take the listener from point A to point B.” That philosophy has evolved Lonny into not only a great songwriter & performer, but also a great storyteller.
