Welcome to “THE MUSIC WITHIN†my first CD. As a mostly self-taught, acoustic fingerstyle guitarist this CD is both a reflection of my musical ‘roots’ and an expression of the music I’m currently exploring and composing.
There are several purely acoustic, solo fingerstyle tunes here – just me, a guitar, and a couple of good mics.
Some others are composed/arranged in the classic guitar/bass/drum trio style.
Finally, others are orchestrated with a new instrument I’m exploring, the guitar synthesizer. I can finally play the music I “hear in my head†and have it voiced as a sax, muted trumpet, string section etc . Amazing !
The Tunes
The Awakening – free form, dream like piece… welcome to the CD
Jerry’s Tune – classic fingerstyle, inspired by a Jerry Garcia tune
Creepin’ – started as a chord progression and the rest just happened
Sunday Morning – wrote this as a solo fingerstyle piece several years ago.
This was one of the first tunes I arranged for the synth… a favorite !
Pete’s Tune – written years ago, from a Pete Seeger guitar riff
Bassic Training – I’ve recently discovered the electric fretless bass , love it !
Slippery When Wet – started as a chord progression, always goes over well.
Rain – written years ago as a Windham Hill inspired acoustic solo piece. Now embellished with the guitar synth
Swivel Hips – takes a classic chord progression and adds what I hear in my head for a sexy, almost burlesque, melody
Anji’s Cousin – inspired by the classic ‘Anji’ by D. Graham , my musical roots on display here.
Flat Top and Archy – a piece to showcase the complementary voices of the Taylor acoustic and the Eastman Archtop (with a little synth thrown in)
Plagiarism Blues – written years ago also as a solo acoustic piece, just ‘borrowed’ a bunch of classic blues riffs, hence the title… now with the full ‘band’
Blues For b.b. – inspired by some of BB King’s music, wish I had his touch and tone
Modulation – a simple but catchy melody, morphed thru different keys
Simple Gifts – a traditional Shaker folk song, simply played
