Jack grew up in and around Gulfport, Mississippi -- one of those places that''s been in the news a lot since Hurricane Katrina. More about that elsewhere on his web site, https://www.tradebit.com.
Jack''s musical style is a hodgepodge of the New Orleans sound he grew up next to, the blues he grew up south of, and the Buffett beach sound he grew up inside of. He writes songs of life, love, and a little politics too. His sound has been described as a cross between James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett and Pete Seeger, with a dash of jazz and blues and politics thrown in.
He graduated from Gulfport High in 1981, Mississippi College (B. Mus. Ed.) in 1986, and Cal. State Long Beach (M.A. Musicology) in 1997. Since Gulfport he''s lived in Jackson, MS; Dallas, TX; Nashville, TN; Long Beach and Torrance, CA; and now Meridian, ID, just outside of Boise, for the past 10-1/2 years. He spends most of my time directing choirs and teaching advanced guitar at Meridian High, the oldest of four (soon to be five) high schools in Meridian. But he also teaches private guitar, directs the adult choir at First Congregational United Church of Christ, and plays solo and group gigs all over the place.
His son Kevin (age 12) is the delight of his life. He''s into science, musical theatre, Star Trek, Runescape, and hanging with his friends.
