"...a live band whose music oozes an almost Philadelphia soul sound with layered grooves punctuated by rhymed lyrics about a world where hope exists alongside darkness, and women are seen as complete human beings."
-- David Jakubiak for The Chicago Sun Times --
Led by MC CZAR Absolute and Wondur Wie, the band creates an interactive experience that has captured audiences from large assembly halls to tiny neighborhood cafés. Whether with melodious harmonies on the keys, kinetic guitar riffs, or sophisticated cross rhythms on the drums, the band has intoxicated crowds with a musical sound buffet as diverse as its cultural background. Priding itself on a healthy knowledge base and its professionalism, the band has won the respect of its peers while performing at some of Chicago''s most historic and legendary venues such as the Double Door, Elbo Room, Hot House and Subterranean/Beat Kitchen. Defining itself by staying true to the origins of Hip-Hop while daringly forging the future of a musical generation, Animate Objects is sure to place you in the fast lane.
Formed in September of 2003 in Champaign, IL, Animate Objects is an amalgam of Chicago''s finest Hip-Hop players. Two weeks after forming, the Objects won the Triangle Battle of the Bands, sending them on their way to the top of the local music scene. The band has received critical praise from independent music aficionados and novice listeners alike while opening for national acts including Soul Position, Digable Planets, and Illogic/DJ Przm. In their earliest period, as a further contribution to the central Illinois music scene, the Animate Objects were champion contributors helping lay the cornerstone for the foundation of the first student run record label in the Big Ten, Green Street Records. By serving as a dynamic force they helped usher the record label to acclaim as its historic story was brought to the eyes of the nation in Billboard magazine (March 23, 2004).
