Rock Music For Grownups
Most of the band has been around long enough to be influenced by everyone from Woody Guthrie and James Taylor to the Rolling Stones. And then there''s the Beatles, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley and the list goes on and on. These and other great artists of their youth remain a powerful influence. The amazing thing is what they take from these influences...lush harmonies, intricate arrangements and award winning songwriting.
Band leader Bill Mulroney’s singer songwriter career began in the 1970’s at coffee houses and garage parties, but it wasn’t until after a musical hiatus of 20 some years when seeing an open mic poster in a local bar that something clicked. Bill’s passion was reignited and almost immediately he began to realize a renewed passion to write, and to rock.
He has now formed the Second Wind Bandits, a super-charged group of musicians including songwriter Bill Mulroney on guitar and vocals; DC veteran Tom Blood contributing songwriting, vocals and lead guitar; songwriter Charlie Plunkett on lead guitar and vocals; Gary Garvin on bass; John Donovan on guitar and keyboards; and drummer Jay Dennis. With these musicians, there’s no lack of ability to rock, and their combined songwriting skills and lush harmonies are proven assets. Occasional contributors include Mike Lessin on lead guitar, Andy Conversano on percussion, Miriam Colon on vocals, and Mickey Meiklejohn on harmonica.
This debut CD “Resilient Heart” includes 17 original tracks spanning Roots Rock, Pop and Blues genres. This album provides a thread of family man meets Rock and Roll that gives it a cool cohesiveness. While “Queen Bee” takes you on a rollicking
Rockabilly journey, the inspiring title cut “Resilient Heart,” is a beautiful rock song about love lost, love found, forgiveness and the resiliency of the heart.
Bill Mulroney was named Folk Artist of the Year 2006 by New Artist Radio.
The Washington City Paper writes about Bill’s Solo CD “In addition to captivating originals, Bill offered tasty Dylan and Beatles covers—not something many can pull off...” and Music Monthly, described Bill’s first album as “...courageous,” demonstrating a “love of music, of friends, of spouse, of children, of freedom, of country, of life itself.”
“Resilient Heart,” was a winner in the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and five of the songs from the new album have already been selected for nationally released record label compilation CDs including “The Woman I Love” for both the Glam Jam Records Best Indie Song Compilation CD and Tin Records’ Best of Indie ’07 and “Quiet Life” for inclusion on Best New Bands Part II.
Bill''s Songwriting Accolades:
• Billboard World Songwriting Contest
• NewSong Semi-Finalist
• Songwriter’s Association of Washington
THE 2006 WAMMIES!
Second Wind Bandits were nominated for 2006 Best Folk Contemporary Duo/Group by the Washington Area Music Association.
Hey, we''re a rock band now but we LOVE the attention. Thank you DC for the recognition!
Bill Mulroney’s last CD...
"Second Wind" is "well-balanced, intimate, romantic and rocking
at the right moments. Highly recommended."

We remember a time long ago when rock music was a big tent in which powerful melodies and rhythms combined with equally powerful words about the human experience and the result was a meaningful synthesis that transcended mere entertainment. SWB is more than a band; we are a group on a mission. Our songs explore the journey of life as we have lived it...the lessons learned along the way and the joys made possible by living with integrity. We are here to take you away from superficial fluff rock and to give you something deeper for your own life’s journey, just as we intend to keep exploring and appreciating all that life has to offer each and every day.
