This cd will take you on a phantasmagorical musical journey into the mind and music of multi-keyboardist Pete Petersen. It’s hard to put a label on the music contained herein. New age, funk, jazz, classical, all bases are covered. Petersen is a musical chameleon prone to change into multiple forms right before your very ears.
The wittily titled “Hula Hoop†is a case in point. Moving from smooth jazz to funk. Tenor saxophonist Tim Whalen blows an inspired solo during this musical crazy quilt of sound.
Drummers Hugh Petersen and Paul Culligan throw a party together on “Half Way Home and Matt Lawson contributes an invigorating trumpet solo on the tune,†which ends like a circus parade featuring a chorus line of pachyderms followed by a parade of crazy clowns.
“The Light, †which was composed by Hugh Petersen and dedicated to his mother Golda Morris Mcbean, features the precision guitar of Scott Henderson and the wonderful playing of saxophonist Tim Whalen plus Petersen’s keyboard pyrotechnics.
On “Lady Bug†Petersen and his band morph into a cerebral mood with the added component of Tim Whalen’s hypnotic soprano sax.
