The classic story set around the events of the 19th Century Paris uprising. Many themes and ideas are presented in the story, and the actions of the characters all are dictated by what they believe in. Religion provides the back bone to this epic story.
Christianity can be found all through Les Miserables. It influences peoples actions and the individuals devotions to Christianity conflict. Without their idea of spirituality and an after life, the ABC students would have died for nothing. They believed it would make them immortal heroes if they died on the barricade, and Eponine also used the afterlife as an escape from a life doomed to be without Marius hand. The beautiful individual stories throughout the novel and musical wonderfully represent Christianity in todays society, and make us long to be like the redeemed Valjean, and feel enormous pity for Javert.
