Heavy Melodic Rock

METAL: Progressive Metal, ROCK: Progressive Rock
Details:
Formed in 2004, Tempus Sans was born out of the common vision of the band''s three core members, area music vets and band co-founders Pete Calamusa (lead guitar) and Chris Croak (lead vocals), along with Stephen Harrington (rhythm guitar).
"The Ultimate Sacrifice" is the fruit of more than two years of labor spent working to see their vision come to life. In addition to being produced by Calamusa and Croak, the album also boasts eight of their compelling and smartly written original compositions that portray the often dark, brooding struggles between good and evil in a modern arena. While their songs contain political and religious undertones, rather than being overt, take a more subtle approach that can be adapted to anyone''s perspective.
The band brings their many influences to the table, resulting in their own sound being a deft mix of metal, progressive, and basic rock, laced with touches of jazz and melodic harmonies. Tempus Sans'' approach is often compared to Queensryche in that their overall sound transcends boundaries, never hovering in one place long enough to allow themselves to be pigeonholed into any one specific category.
Chris possesses a powerful, supple voice with a broad range and clarity that easily moves between a menacing snarl on the band''s darker material ("Lights," "Best Of Times"), an up-yours defiance ("The Ultimate Sacrifice," "Fighter"), a soul tormented ("Burn," "Sands Of Time), and a serene tenderness on the more inwardly reflective material ("Don''t Tread On Me," "Today"). Pete''s masterful guitar work provides the perfect counterpart to Chris'' vocals. He instinctively leads the way and sets the tone whether delivering heavy dynamic licks, scorching riffs, or shimmering intricate subtlety. Stephen keeps steady pace on rhythm, while the songs are variously filled out with the addition of bass, drums, keyboard, sax and backing vocals. The album''s sole cover is the melodically infectious "Kyrie Eleison." While staying true to the original''s arrangement, Tempus Sans updates the song by removing all traces of typical 80s era cheese-whiz and provides a re-invigorated make-over by delivering a standout no-frills rendition. They infuse it with a forceful pumping beat and fierce, commanding guitar work, giving the song a distinctly heavier feel that leans more towards "metal" territory rather than the commercial radio friendly "pop" leanings of the original.
A great result of Tempus Sans'' dedication and talent, the beast is now unleashed and they invite you to join them on the journey to "The Ultimate Sacrifice."
