Recent reviews of "Geology"...
"...the group separates itself from the herd of also-rans by injecting a good deal of pop smarts. The tipsy saunter of leadoff cut "Don''t Walk" is spiked with synths that lend a little color to the jaunt. "Bringing Knives to a Gunfight" is at once propulsive and moody, a mix of dark dynamics and rock gestalt." -Columbus Alive
"...these 10 songs are shot through with an obsidian dark British influence; artful, epic and searing, this is an album that renews the soul and engages the heart." -Oklahoma Gazette
"Geology is a strong product...a emotional and entrancing collection of songs that are alternately vulnerable, bitter and even playful." -Edmond Sun
"...a carefully considered whole that rewards repeat listens and invites introspection, it''s stark, compelling music" -Oklahoma Gazette
Upon any listen to The Stock Market Crash, you can''t help but find it hard to believe what you hear is from Oklahoma. Their dense and dramatic sound is built around a lifetimes'' worth of struggle with love, life, and drugs. The Oklahoma Gazette praised the bands "sweeping cathartic indie rock" as "a riveting listen that engages the heart, as well as the mind" only weeks after the release of their first EP. Then again only month''s later after building a solid audience TSMC was awarded the 2005 Woody Award for Oklahoma''s Best New Artist by the Gazette.
Vocalist Matt Bacon and guitarist Derek Knowlton have been friends since fifth grade. They met drummer John Curtis at a bakery and quickly began writing songs. The trio placed an ad in the paper looking for a bassist, which Jonathan Martin answered the first day, and TSMC was born. Aggressively committed to creating quality music that reaches people, their dedication to their craft is obvious in their live performance. Their ability to grab audiences attention is often praised by other bands outside their genre they''ve shared the stage with. These four musicians are creating contagious music that is rapidly becoming popular.
The band''s debut record, "Geology", was released January 6, 2006. The 10-track, full length album was recorded at Bell Labs in Norman, OK over a 7 month period. TSMC enlisted the engineering and production talent of Trent Bell, best known for his work with bands the Flaming Lips, the Starlight Mints, and the Chainsaw Kittens. The band is always on tour.
