ABOUT THIS CD
Welcome to my first music recording adventure.
This album is a collection of several individual songs, each of which reflect a part of me or of my experience of life - ranging from ecstasy to horror, joy to sorrow, clarity to confusion, overconfidence to cluelessness, aggression to victimization & from fear to love.
The first song “Cut Loose” is straightforward rock n’ roll. “Father” and “Cold Way Back” are rock ballads about 2 different aspects of our human experience.
Recently, Gary Malkin and Michael Stillwater produced a beautiful album titled “Graceful Passages”. It’s intent is to assist people in experiencing death as a peaceful, graceful passage. In my song “Didn’t Want to Die”, I give a voice to all the times that death is not a graceful passage and is filled with loss, anger and resentment.
I’ve noticed that there aren’t many songs that deal with terror. So, I wrote “Run, Run, Run” to express the feelings of being frightened, victimized, oppressed and utterly confused.
“Love to be Lazy” is a song that reflects one of my core philosophies about how I want to live. “Life is a Song” also reveals a lot about how I look at life now. Since reality is more or less just a story that we’re continually “making up” as we go along – why not make up a story that includes lots of love and joy?
On my own life journey, I’ve found that the fullness and joy that I express in “Love to be Lazy” “Life is a Song” and “Cut Loose” are only possible when I also fully embrace all the so-called dark sides that are expressed in “Didn’t Want to Die” and “Run, Run, Run”.
If possible, please listen to this CD through headphones, to get the full effect (e.g. on a Discman or through your computer, iPod, etc.). Several of the songs are compiled of 30+ tracks, which will not come through without headphones.
I hope you enjoy listening,
Steve Fox
