MP3 Sonny Oden - Week End Guitar Man
I love traditional Country and this is my first attempt at recording. The title song describes me pretty well. I Love George and Merle and I hope it shows in some of my music. I think you will find my sound a little different from todays music.

Biography of Sonny Oden
Sonny was born in Arkansas, on Memorial Day, May 30, 1936. Sonny always loved the sound of Country music, but it wasn''t until he was about 13 years of age that he began to put an effort into actually learning to play it. With the help of a guitar instruction book, which his dad had bought, Sonny began learning how to make chords on a guitar. By the time he was 17 he was playing lead guitar in a country band in Orange, Texas.
Later he met and played with lifelong friends, country singer Bill Hutto and steel guitarist A. C. Billeaud. During his last year in high school he met George Jones, and had the opportunity to play for him for a short while before George joined the Grand Ole Opry. Sonny also met Jimmy Newman, and met and became good friends with Doug Kershaw and Doug''s brother Rusty. This friendship led Sonny to the World''s Original Jamboree , on WWVA, in Wheeling, W. Va. There he played lead guitar for Skeeter Bonn in 1956 & 1957. Some other artist Sonny has performed with are, Don Gibson, Pee Wee King, Wilma Lee and Stony Cooper, Peter Dawson, Wayne Raney, Buddy Spicher to mention a few. Also during this time Sonny met and got to play with the famous jazz guitarist Lenny Breau and Chet Atkins.
After leaving Wheeling , Sonny met and married Patty Hague in Cambridge, Ohio and they settled down to raise a family. Sonny played guitar in several groups in the Cambridge area until 1979 when he moved back to Texas.
In the Fall of 1997 his wife of almost 40 years, died from complications following bypass surgery and Sonny was left with a lot of time on his hands, and nothing to do! Growing tired of sitting around and watching TV, he decided to try to get back into music. He began by looking up an old friend whom he had not seen since 1963. His name was Jerry Cornelius, a bass player whom he had met at Wheeling. Through this reunion Sonny became acquainted with The Apple Tree Jamboree in Bellville, Ont. Ca. and made a lot of new Country Music friends.
In the Summer of 2000, Sonny recorded his first album and called it
"The Week-End Guitar Man" from a song he wrote with the same title. This album contains several of Sonny''s own compositions. Since then he has recorded several more albums. He has recorded in Texas, Michigan and Canada.
Sonny spends his Winters in Florida, and does a one man band act, playing for shows, dances or parties. He uses a real time arranger which gives him a full band sound. Sonny takes pride in the fact that his recording, thus far, have all been done strictly by himself, and he can duplicate the sound of his recordings live. He does enjoy working with other musicians from time to time, sometimes as a duet, sometimes as part of a full band. He is available for all types of engagements and loves playing TRADITIONAL Country Music.
