BETHANY is a Minneapolis-based singer/songwriter with a passionate and refreshing brand of electronic pop. Her discovery of music began in rural Sunburg when her 98 year old neighbor stopped by her family''s country store to play his violin for her. After a childhood of training she won a scholarship in performance art for violin at Lawrence University''s Conservatory of Music. Along the way, she picked up a guitar and began performing in local coffee shops as a folksinger, selling cassettes of her songs to friends and passersby. In the following years she taught violin lessons and repaired laptops to pay the rent.
In 1998, Bethany joined forces with Jessy Greene (Viovoom, Jayhawks) as violinist and backup vocalist.
In 2001, she earned her degree in music recording production and released her first full length cd as modul8. Shortly after, she was featured on LCD vinyl release, Lowrider Suites II, as Blacktor, and collaborated with Jason Heinrichs (Anomaly, Roomsa, Aphrodosio Recordings) as vocalist and co-producer.
This self-titled debut EP, a cross-studio effort with technoist, Dave Olson (Parotic) provides a first glimpse into Bethany''s subtle, yet provocative songwriting. Performing with live-looping percussionist, Aaron Barnell (Alicia Corbett, Tea & Sympathy) a highly stylized palette of electronics is layered with Barnell''s acoustic augmentations coalescing into a dramatic foundation for Bethany''s moody vocal.
