Cherokee National Youth Choir Welcomes Listeners To A "Cherokee Sunday Morning"
Award-Winning Youth Choir Releases a New CD of Gospel Favorites
(Nashville, TN) The Cherokee Nation is pleased to announce that the Cherokee National Youth Choir will release a new CD, Cherokee Sunday Morning, on Tuesday, August 30. It is the fourth album project by the award-winning choir.
With songs from the Cherokee hymn book sung in the beautiful Cherokee language, the choir takes the listener on a spiritual journey, recreating the sounds of services in little country churches throughout the Cherokee Nation. And they welcome their audience to "please join in and add your voice to the choir as we rejoice on a beautiful Cherokee Sunday Morning."
The CD blends stirring renditions of traditional gospel favorites, including "Blessed Be The Tie," and "O How I Love Jesus," with more contemporary selections such as "Farther Along," and "How Great Thou Art." Other songs included are "At The Cross," "Jesus Is King," "I Will Not Live Always," "I''m Building A Bridge," "Redeeming Love," and "I Will Tell You What God Has Done For Me."
Cherokee Sunday Morning will be released on the same day as their new DVD, Live From Washington D.C.- First Americans Festival. States choir director, Mary Kay Henderson, "This past year has been a very busy time for the choir. Kathy Sierra, the assistant choir director, and I receive 2 or 3 requests per week for the choir to perform, and while we would love to accept all requests, it''s not possible, because the students are in school. But, we can''t rest on our laurels too long, as we will soon be selecting new material for their next album, and holding auditions for future choir members, in January 2006."
The Cherokee National Youth Choir has received multiple Native American Music Awards (NAMMY''s), and is considered by many to be the preeminent native language youth choir in America. They have performed at the White House for President George W. Bush, at the Smithsonian''s National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.. They have also appeared in concert and recorded with legendary entertainers Dolly Parton and Rita Coolidge.
Principal Chief Chadwick "Corntassel" Smith proudly states: "The Cherokee National Youth Choir is helping the Cherokee Nation achieve its goal to strengthen and carry on our rich culture through our language."
