Soon after Father Derik Roy arrived to become rector of Christ Episcopal Church in 1994, Field Horne suggested a festival of lessons and carols as a way of welcoming our friends and neighbors to the warmth of our faith community. The unique perspective was provided by songs coming from the Celtic and African American traditions, or ones written in those styles, most of which were little known.
John Kirk and Trish Miller brought their professional skills to the very first event, and soon were an integral part of the congregation. Over the years, the three of us have asked our musical friends to be guest performers. Many of them appear on this recording. Merry Christmas!
