Produced by Area 52 Productions, located near Nashville, Tenn., the album features some of Nashville’s most popular studio musicians, including Jerry McPherson who was recently featured on albums by Carrie Underwood, Dave Barnes, Faith Hill and the David Crowder Band. Ronnie Brookshire, producer and owner of Area 52, is also a native of Elizabethton, and has worked with a variety of successful musicians, including Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Nicole Nordeman and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty.
“The fact that Erin and I both are from Elizabethton has been fun on many levels,” said Brookshire. “I never thought I would be working with a fellow ‘Fighting Cyclone’ but I guess it just shows that the Lord works in strange and mysterious ways. I am proud to be a part of the creativity that continues to pour out of Elizabethton and the East Tennessee area. She has made us all proud!”
In the fall of 2009, Aubrey, along with 32 other students, was invited to Martha''s Vineyard, Mass., to spend a semester studying with the Contemporary Music Center (CMC), which is headquartered in Chantilly, Va. CMC is the nation’s only artists’ colony where up-and-coming musicians and entertainment executives come together to make an impact in today’s music industry. Rick Elias, critically acclaimed songwriter and producer, served as Aubrey’s songwriting professor at CMC.
“It is a rare thing indeed to discover a young artist with such compelling songs and a unique voice to match,” said Elias, who has written and produced songs for movie soundtracks such as “That Thing You Do” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
Following her semester away, Aubrey emailed demos to Brookshire. Aubrey had sought out Brookshire after hearing him speak at her sister’s graduation two years earlier. After hearing her demos, Brookshire expressed an interest in Aubrey’s music and asked her to record with him.
After one year of working at a daycare and waiting tables, Aubrey saved enough money to record her first album.
On her album, Aubrey plays the piano and sings both lead and background vocals. She credits world-renowned musician, Norah Jones, as her most significant influence.
"Recording an album has been a dream and a goal of mine since I was a little girl singing into a hairbrush,” said Aubrey. “I am overwhelmed with appreciation for the people who have helped make it possible. I feel as if this album is my chance to give something back to the Milligan community and to celebrate this milestone with those who have poured so much into me.”
“We all find out more about ourselves when one of us decides to reveal our soul to those around us,” said Brookshire. “Erin''s music does just that. Her writing dismisses any self doubt while her voice draws you to that place where the heart lives. She has effortlessly bridged the past to the present and this only from her first project.”
