Hi, I’m Rebecca! I just recently turned 21, woo! Although, I’m not a big drinker. I go to college in Austin, Texas and am majoring in Creative Writing (for the songwriting side of things). I learned to play guitar early in high school, and just recently got a white Fender Telecaster for Christmas! But I might still love my restored acoustic Washburn just a bit more, (but that’s a secret). But singing and songwriting have always been my real passions. I have been doing both since I can remember. At five years old I used to do Aretha Franklin and Cher impressions all the time. You couldn’t stop me (and believe me, they tried). I could actually do better impressions at five than I can do even now. I would make up dances to my favorite songs and the music on some TV commercials (specifically, the Loreal Kids commercial was my favorite). Whenever the song or commercial would come on I’d yell to my parents and siblings to come watch my dance! They put up with a lot, but I loved it.
I grew up all over the place, (if you really want to know here’s the crazy long list: Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado, California [San Diego and Pebble Beach], Montana, and FINALLY Austin, Texas!) And no, my family is not in the military; they’re just crazy like that. I love love love Austin! And although I hated moving around at the time, I now am very grateful to have really experienced all those different cities. My favorite color is purple. Some would say I’m purple obsessed, and I would probably have to agree with them. Sometimes I overdo it with purple without even realizing until someone else points it out. My favorite numbers are 3 and 13, always have been (they have nothing to do with Taylor Swift, although I do hate how much I adore her). I love exclamation points! (As you have probably already noticed from what you’ve read). Weird, I know. But I think they just make life more fun and exciting! I’m all about positivity. I’m a planner; I’ve had my whole life planned out since I was 6. Doesn’t sound fun, does it? WRONG! It is, but only because I allow myself to change my plans as I, myself, change. But one thing has never changed, and that is my absolute LOVE for singing, writing, making music, and performing. It just makes me happy. Everything is clear when I’m performing. Writing songs helps me to sift through my emotions and express what I’m feeling. On stage is my happy place – I feel lucky to have found it.
I love a huge variety of music, so choosing my favorite band is probably one of the hardest things for me to do (although The Strokes are definitely up there on the list); but some of my favorite female artists who really helped to influence my style are Kate Nash, Lily Allen, and Adele. I absolutely ADORE them!! (All British artists, I know…weird coincidence). I love their tell-it-like-it-is kind of attitude in their music and I try to do the same in my music. I don’t hold back. My songs are like diary entries, so I don’t sugar coat anything. I say exactly whats on my mind.
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed because of all the things I want to do in my life. I want to win a Grammy, I want to be on the cover Rolling Stone magazine (yes, like the song), I want to be a platinum selling artist, I want to be on the Conan O’Brien show (I love him!), I want to write a screenplay, I want to design clothes (I just got a sewing machine!), I love acting and want to be in a movie, I want to perform in a Broadway musical (I could settle for off-Broadway too), I want to travel all over – and AHH so much more! See, I really want to do EVERYTHING (except skydiving, I don’t want to do that). But I recently decided not to be overwhelmed about it anymore – instead I’m just going to do it all! I mean, why not?
I hope you enjoy my music as much as I enjoy making it. Thank you for your time and support (not to mention reading this entire novel of a biography)!
xoxo, Rebecca
