Details:
Singer/songwriter Robin Renée has often been asked how kirtan chanting came to be a part of her musical and spiritual world. The story of “Hare Krishna Christmas” is a piece of that answer.
Though long interested in Eastern tools for deepening consciousness like meditation and chant, one December Renée had a vision experience that moved her very swiftly toward a renewed spirituality and a particular passion for the yoga of sound. During this time of intense expansion, it was difficult for her to do more than write, sing, and feel connected with All. However, it was the holiday season and there were Christmas gifts to be bought. Getting caught it the bustle of the shopping crowds was a shock to the system, and possibly a grounding factor that brought a bit of equilibrium to shifting awareness. The humor in the situation was not lost, and “Hare Krishna Christmas” seemed to write itself effortlessly one evening as the tree was being decorated. To Renée, the song has come to not only celebrate her own blended spirituality, but to honor the many expressions of fellowship and love across all winter holiday traditions.
“Hare Krishna Christmas” is a parody with a purpose: During the 2010 holiday season, 20% of download proceeds will go toward vegetarian donations to food banks for those in need.
