Pursuing her solo career since 2007, Natalie Ryan is a Los Angeles based rock singer/songwriter who is originally from a small town in Pennsylvania. She learned piano at age seven and played the cello for 8 years. Natalie taught herself how to play the guitar and started writing songs. Eventually she decided to pack up, make the move to Los Angeles, and enroll at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood where she studied recording and songwriting. Later she teamed up with producer Chris Bahnsen to record "Where I Belong." Currently Natalie is living in Los Angeles and you can find her performing live all over the city, in clubs like the Viper Room, the Rainbow Room, the Cat Club and in surrounding areas. Natalie writes all her own music and is always working to improve and define her sound. "My parents played alot of Billy Joel and Beatles. My first concert was Green Day and I love rock music. My songs are a combination of rock and acoustic tracks and I''m always experimenting and growing as a writer. Songwriting is how I see the world, how I express what is going on inside of me. I am most myself when I am writing" -natalieryan
This album took me about 6 months to record and this is my first professional release. It''s like all the songs I''ve ever written, I tried to just pick five that were really true and and spoke honestly about things I''ve been through that have made me into a stronger person. The EP is called "where I belong" which is a representation of the journey I''ve been on that has led me to this point. There''s heartbreak, personal struggle and all the things you go through when you''re young and learning life''s lessons. It takes time to figure out who you are, and "where I belong" doesn''t necessarily mean I''ve found my place, it just means I''ve come to terms with the fact that on some level you are always growing and learning. It''s important to be at peace with wherever you are in life at that moment, good or bad, and I feel like that idea can be applied to almost anything someone may be going through in their life. The last song on the record is the title track and talks about the struggle to find your place. "Search Party", the single, is about feeling betrayed by life or love and wanting to give up. But that song is also about hope, that even if one person is there to believe in you and love you, that''s enough. "When I''m Feeling Low" is a song about the feeling you get when you think of someone from your past who had a big impact on your life and want to connect with that feeling. Certain people know you in a way others will never be able to. "Perfection" is about rising above the assumptions and judgments of someone who tried to fit you into a mold of what they wanted, instead of seeing, accepting and loving you for who you are. And "Should I Lie" is about how it feels when you''re trying to move past a relationship and you''re putting on a strong face when really, you''re dying inside.
It''s just a really honest record that I hope people connect with.
