It looks like there''s going to be another return to the contemporary/smooth jazz art form from Hawaii saxophonist Jeff Gaeth, as he has just released his new CD, ‘Shoestrings’ from Puna Records. After several albums from over the years (2005, 2008) & dazzling audiences with his live performances, Jeff proves his sound still holds center court with this outstanding CD.
The album, ‘Shoestrings’, consists of eleven original songs from Jeff, each providing a combination of his smooth as silk tenor, soprano, alto saxes and flutes with his heartfelt melodies, lyrical compositions and sensitive production. The music is punctuated throughout with elements of jazz, Latin, pop and R&B.
The album was recorded at Jeff’s studio on The Big Island, and its creation was supported by a number of musicians who have been associated with Jeff the past few years, most notably, fretless bassist/trombonist Frank Musacchio. Frank has spent a number of years promoting extended range fretless bass and its role in their compositions. Mixing his classical leanings with contemporary jazz, Musacchio uses his six string fretless, at times, as a melodic, solo instrument which brings another dimension to an already tight ensemble. Jeff and Frank''s trademark extensive unison passages can be heard in many of the new CD''s tracks.
The album was produced by Jeff Gaeth and mastered at Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs.
His 2008 release ‘Paradise Park’ has been well received, especially in Europe. “Since then, my style has developed and I’ve incorporated other sounds and genres which have all made their way into ‘Shoestrings’. The album is a reflection of my influences over the years and the changes that I’ve experienced recently in my life.”
Those influences have definitely found their way into Jeff’s music. Whilst his grounding came in a more traditional style of contemporary Jazz music – he was always keen to bring something unique to a traditional sound. Jeff refuses to restrict his influences to one genre. Instead, he has been influenced by numerous artists and genres of music from across the globe.
