7 Mansions is a phenomenal, original band based in Los Angeles, Ca.
Satina is originally from Illinois and grew up on the west side of Chicago. From morning till night, music was always playing in her home. At the age of nine Satina proclaimed to her family in a bold move that she wanted to become an opera singer when she grew up and would often sail through the house belting out lavish notes (which she still does today). She takes many chances with her choice of notes - climbing up to the highest highs then dropping down to the lowest lows – and makes the most complicated scales seam effortless.
Many comparisons have been made of Satina and the great Etta James. Her raw vocal aggression, brilliant songwriting, undeniable presence and wide range, puts her in a league with great artists like Carole King, Alicia Keys, Sharon Jones, and Whitney Houston. Many of Satina’s personal musical influences span the globe. She is most influenced by: Yma Sumac, Tina Turner, Grace Jones, electronica, classical and eastern music.
Satina has several other creative talents and high professional skill sets. She is a cosmetologist, wardrobe stylist, graphic designer, music producer, model, writer and executive assistant. Writing songs and performing live are two of her passions. She uses vocal, visual, sound, and literary techniques to tell her dramatic stories and her library is full of original works waiting to be seen, read and heard.
Like Satina, Diz is from Illinois and he too grew up in a musical household on the west side of Chicago. His mother played Hawaiian steel guitar and she encouraged him to play a string instrument. Diz of course, fell in love with the guitar. He learned many different styles and has a wealth of world rhythms to draw upon when carving out his beautiful, carbon footprint in music. Diz is most influenced by: Alvino Rey, Chuck Berry, Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Bootsy Collins.
Although Satina & Diz were both born in Chicago, Illinois, they didn’t meet each other until 2006 at a Sunday night blues jam in Minneapolis. In January 2008 Satina & Diz relocated to Los Angeles. Once settled they began refining their concept and working on projects.
Satina & Diz are without a doubt a songwriting dynamic duo. They are the perfect alchemy as they draw upon their unique ability to translate and transpose global rhythms when creating songs. Their music is a seamless fusion of jazz, blues, rock, eastern, electronica, classical, pop, and R&B music. The pair’s songwriting diversity IS “the thing” that has captivated listeners. Satina writes brilliant words then sings them over Diz’s exotic melodies and hypnotic rhythms. Their upcoming debut album Level III is the best of north meets south; east meets west; and old meets new. It is an album that will take listeners on a journey all around the world and back again and international communities of fans await its release.
Many spices and exotic ingredients have gone into their musical stew yet their creations are never contrived. Their expansive musical repertoire is a mirror reflection of their multi-cultural heritage. 7 Mansions is always pushing the envelope and testing new ideas in their music. They have a curious thirst for knowledge and experimentation and are on a continual quest of discovery. Satina & Diz have a clear line of sight many light years into the future. They’re the past, they’re the future, and they are right now!
With the collaboration and production genius of Steffen Pressley, Level III will be an international phenomenon and it is more than just an alternative album. It’s a victory dance! It symbolizes ones triumphant journey through life including all of the trials, errors, ups, downs and in betweens. The album is filled with stories that almost every modern woman can relate to. Level III promotes female empowerment, intelligence…inspiration…Satina’s cutting edge style…and So Many Things...
