Growing up in the “Fiesta City” of San Antonio Texas, Kimberly Dunn has always had a song playing in her head. “I’ve been singing my entire life! When no one was home I’d parade around the house in my pajamas belting out anything I could think of. It’s a liberating feeling that can take your heart and soul to completely new and exciting places.” The first time Kimberly sang for an audience and saw the expressions of excitement in their faces, she knew performing on stage would be a lifelong passion. “Everyone has a dream. More than anything, I love to sing on a stage and hope to influence people’s lives in a positive way.”
Dunn also began writing her stories into songs at a young age; “It’s something that comes really naturally to me. I love to write. I write what I experience and what I observe. I feel like a lot of people can relate to what I write about: life and love.” Not only does Dunn compose her own music, she also taught herself to sing and play every instrument she performs on. “I have a wonderful time expressing myself with music. There is something so thrilling to me about sharing my life alongside instruments: strings and wood, lyrics and melodies. I think music is one of life’s greatest tools for people to access the heart.”
In the past year, Kimberly spent her last semester on the Texas A&M campus performing shows with the Memorial Student Center Town Hall Organization. She showcased her most recent catalog at the 2010 Rock the Republic festival held in downtown Bryan, TX alongside the likes of the Band of Heathens and other regional up and comers. In late November, Dunn competed against 29 bands in the Texas A&M University Battle of the Bands. After making it through the three preliminary rounds, KD found herself singing as a finalist at Rudder Auditorium in College Station, TX in front of a huge crowd of students, professors, fans, and a panel of judges. On November 19, 2010, Dunn was crowned winner of the Texas A&M Battle of the Bands competition without the help of a band to back her up.
Kimberly is currently working on her EP in Austin, TX and will be playing in a city near you soon. “I am so excited about this year to come!” Dunn says she has lofty expectations for this year and is prepared to work hard for them. “It takes teamwork, tenacity, and faith. With those three things at the core of my musical family, I know our dreams can be accomplished!”
