Who is Kelley Nelson??...
Coming from the small town of Jonesville, VA, Kelley remembers having a passion for music in her early childhood. She made frequent visits to the Carter Family Fold in Hilton’s, VA, where she was exposed to the foot-stompin’ rhythms of Bluegrass music. She was introduced to the legendary sounds of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Jimmy Martin, and countless others by her grandfather. Kelley was also deeply influenced by the traditional Country music of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and the Gospel hymns that she sang in her church choir growing up. Kelley spent 4 years performing with her high school choral group, and continued to sing in church over the next several years. In March 2006, she met her husband, Tim Mullins, and the two were married in November 2007. Kelley and Tim quickly began making plans to start a band, and in the Fall of 2006, The Kelley Nelson Band was born. Since that time, the group has performed at many regional and national festivals and events, including The Graves Mountain Apple Harvest Festival in 2009, The Clinch River Festival in 2009 & 2010, The Madison Bluegrass Festival in Nashville, TN in 2009, The Damascus Trail Days Festival in 2009, and The Virginia Highlands Festival in 2010. Kelley has also had the opportunity to perform several times on the stage of the Carter Family Fold, once as a guest of Melvin Goins & Windy Mountain, receiving an over-whelming response from the audience and the band. Kelley’s debut album, Yesterday’s Blues, was released on September 28, 2010, and is already gaining recognition, with the first single from the album being played on the nationally-syndicated bluegrass show, Main Street Bluegrass; and an upcoming interview with Canadian song-writer and host of “In the Country”, Dave Woods. The 12-song release includes 3 songs penned by Kelley, and 4 originals by other accomplished songwriters. With a sound that will easily blend with today’s most-recognized Bluegrass bands, it is certain that a bright future is in store for The Kelley Nelson Band. Her stage-presence is like no other and her sweet and commanding vocals are sure to leave audiences wanting more!
