“Throughout my life, and especially during the creation of this album, I was very conscious of the underdog; those who hide in the shadows because they are afraid of their own light, and time and time again have been called ‘freaks’ and been told they don’t belong,” he said. “I think this is especially true of gay youth, like when I was growing up; I identified as such and didn’t really have an inspiration.”
Shields tackled these sensitive issues with grace on “All American Fag” and “Hate Hate,” while inviting listeners to his party on the more upbeat and danceable tracks “Tear Up the Night” and “On the Dance Floor.
