"A Hill Worth Dying On" is the debut release of the the band "The Thompsons". The Thompsons was originally created by Jake Turner and Joseph Souza as a side projects for both of them. Joseph and Jake began writing and recording original Thompson''s material in Joseph''s apartment Fall of 2009. After a few recording sessions, Jake and Joseph felt that the music had potential and decided to look for more ''Thompsons" to recruit. Seth Rassmussen, one of Jake''s coworkers and good friends, was the first to join the Thompsons Spring of 2010. Jake then turned to his a few of his former band mates of "Queen City Saints" to join the band. Tyler Wakefield, Mitch Wakefield, and Chris Caldwell joined up in the Summer of 2010. Though having members residing in three different states, the band began to collectively writing and record original songs using email and home recording setups. Joseph, Tyler, and Jake would share the songs they had written via email with the other band members and they would learn their parts online.
The band united as a whole in Minneapolis February 2011 to record their EP "A Hill Worth Dying On". Joseph involved his good friend, Shane Baskerville (Helva, Blue Waffle, Time Turners) to produce and help engineer the EP. In a day and a half the band had recorded all six songs. The band also featured Joseph''s good friend Megan Rousey (Slip City Widows, Blue Waffle, Time Turners) as a guest vocalist. The band was so impressed with Megan, that she was offered a full time vocal spot in the band shortly after the recording of the EP.
Jake and Joseph created their own record label, Midwest Riot Records, to release the EP under. The physical release date for the EP is May 7th, 2011.
