Chaingang haven’t been around for long but they’re already getting Courtney Love going wild for them on the internet!
The Sydney band of bandits have been peddling their own blend of dark, pulsating punk rock and in-yo-face pop hooks to audiences around Australia and the US and are finally ready to drop their debut single, ‘Holiday’.
The track is lifted from Chaingang’s forthcoming, self-titled EP, which was produced by badass hip-hop dude Snob Scrilla in Nashville. On that same trip the band played a couple of showcase gigs on LA’s Sunset Strip which inspired some guy from LA’s KROQ Radio to call them “one of the bands to watch in 2010.” So be like him and watch them!
So far, Chaingang have shared bills with the likes of The Streets, Ladyhawke, Jose Gonzalez, The Grates, Bluejuice and Panic At The Disco and most recently George Michael at the official Sydney Mardi Gras party. The sweet supports continue in June this year when Chaingang warm up the crowd for Operator Please on their national tour.
Chaingang’s lead singer Hayley Foster rips up her stages like a sequinned, gesticulating maniac, like the deranged lovechild of Freddie Mercury and Nina Hagen in a Frank N’ Furter costume. Together with guitarist Dan Duque-Perez, bassist Mike Jeffery and drummer Christopher Riley, the racket that ensues has moved tastemaking blogs around the world to remark on their “spastic, brash bar band rock that was Joan Jett or the Runaways mixed with the tribal delight of Siouxsie & the Banshees/ Gothic Blondie.” (Bibabidi)
