Details:
Hailing from the beautiful shores of Southwest Florida, Common Ground is a strange group of musicians with an even stranger history. Banded together through the bonds of hard work, dedication and positive vibrations, Common Ground is making their footprint on those same shores with a “sky’s the limit” mindset. Having met in college, Robby, Ed & Lancelot started what eventually became Common Ground in the summer of 2009 with no more than the passion to play some good music. Nearly six months later the guys met front man, Kevin “Kockroach” Beattie, a multi-instrumentalist who brought some truly skilled talent to the mix, including turntablism and rapping, as well as singing. Finally, Common Ground met up with a phenomenal musician & seasoned trombone player, Nick Grim, and the line-up was finally complete.
Common Ground truly has a multi-faceted approach to making reggae music. The band members each have a very broad range of musical tastes and backgrounds - Southern-rock, Jazz, Alternative Rock, Hardcore, World, Punk, Hip-Hop, Ragtime, Bluegrass, and of course Reggae; From roots to surf. With each member having so many different influences, it has cultivated a purely original and organic form of reggae music. Common Ground calls their brand of reggae, “Progressive Reggae Fusion”. Their music pays homage to the roots of reggae music, while also exploring the depths of musical composition and arrangement. Common Ground’s music is familiar in its bouncing and hard driving rhythms, but will leave you wanting more with their catchy hooks, relatable lyrics, and unexpected twists throughout the music. Targeting people of all ages and walks of life, Common Ground’s music is easily accessible to anyone with a taste for new music. Currently, Common Ground is working hard in Southwest Florida, with a steadily increasing fan-base. Common Ground genuinely would like to be friends with all their fans, so they each make an effort to talk with fans often, either through Facebook, at shows, or on the beach. For us, the music is just one part of the bigger picture. Without the scene, the loving support of our fans/friends, and the unity between us, we would defeat the purpose of coming together on a common ground in the first place.
Now rapidly gaining momentum and taking the reggae scene by storm, they will be releasing their first 5 track EP in May, followed shortly after by a Florida summer tour. Already sharing the stage with National touring bands such as Passafire, The Supervillains, and The Spam All-stars, nothing stands in their way of attaining success. You''ll be able to pick their EP up on iTunes and at their live shows in May!
