Formed in early 2010, “Cody the Band” is the brainchild of front man Cody Hudock, whose early childhood ambition was to be a multi-sport star athlete. As he came to grips with the fact that he lacked both the motivation and physical prowess to accomplish this dream, Cody discovered by his late teens that he could attract more women as a musician than he could in any other profession, and subsequently set out to make the world a better place, one pop song at a time. The decision has worked out well for Cody – playing keys in local indie favorites Marvelous Toy, he gained the introduction of the beautiful and talented Joanna Montell, who went on to become both a vocalist in Cody the Band, as well as his wife-to-be. The band consists also of Jacob Summers (ex-Rhone Occupation lead singer, occasional One Trick Pony drummer, national champion rudimental percussionist), Caitlin Dwyer (Count Fleet, Letting Up Despite Great Faults), and Bobby Rawson (who looks similar enough to Cody as to be mistaken for his brother).
Since the release of their 2010 self-titled EP, Cody the Band has garnered good deal of praise from the local music press. The 704 blog proclaimed, “there''s a lot to love about their music: the unlikely interplay between the vocals, the propulsive yet playful piano lines, the addled wisdom of the lyrics,” and Radio Free Silverlake deemed them “remarkably accomplished and quite magical live." Even local indie curmudgeon/blogger, Hater X , reserved some unusually kind words for the band, remarking that, “there ain’t nothing hip about Cody the Band, but the dude knows how to write a song.”
