Juanita Smith was a Barcelona''s indie rock party flavor band that applied some ska rhythms and some jazzy tunes (mostly in their later years). Heavily influenced by the creative explosion of Barcelona''s music underground scene of the ''90''s they are considered the sons of the Mano Negra music parenthood that invaded Southern Europe in the 90''s. Although many members came and went their local success developed during it''s most stable years (1994-1995) with the following members:
Pau Josa (Drums), Carlos de Javier (vocals, guitar) Marcos Gonzalez (bass), Jordi Dalmau (keyboards), David de Javier (guitar), Mauri (vocals), Javier Cardona (saxophone). They played in most of Barcelona''s famous alternative music clubs acquiring a certain degree of success. Their most memorable concerts were held at Apolo, KGB and Sala Gitanes during 1994-1995. They only recorded 4 songs during the summer of 1994. Now they have been remastered by DJ Le Brion (Miami night scene DJ) and relaunched in 2011 digitally. Even though the sound is not extraordinary the explosion of talent and creativity is obvious in all of these 4 tracks.
Their lyrics talk about social reality both in Spain and in Latin America. Some of their songs expressed their concern for the raising social injustice environment of modern Latin American societies.
