Details:
The album’s title “Sisters” encompasses the female-named songs that have been composed throughout the duo’s performance career, which are influenced by fictional and real-life characters that range from a dark fairy tale (Gretel) to an everyday person (Angelique), and which reflect on themes such as outcasts (Convalescent, Useless Beauty), the awkwardness of growing up (Michelle), the irony of life (Left Foot Day), solitude (Rebeca), helpless devotion (Agnes), tenderness (Sand Clock/Safe Secret), reconciliation (Willowy Ivy) and hope in the time of disaster (Winter Exile).
“Sisters” presents diverse styles through an unusual ensemble of instruments, utilizing the thriving beats of the didgeridoo, overwhelming cathedral organ, thumping marching band, hallucinatory pseudo-klezmer clarinet, Balkan-influenced tambourine, contemplative Native American Flute, nostalgic accordion, dramatic cello, cheeky brass, radiant glockenspiel and cavaquinho shimmering like holiday lights, in addition to bike bells and trash bins.
