Details:
Crash Four''s music may best be described as acoustic rock. After only one year in Boise they were voted Treasure Valley''s best rock band and best alternative band in the Idaho Statesman''s Best of Boise. CrashFour has also opened up for such acts as Built to Spill, Colobo, Moe, and Ominous Seapods. They traveled to Austin, Texas to play in the annual South by Southwest festival in 2000. Crash Four''s freshman album five small steps sold over 1000 copies. Jake Ransom, Kelly Martin, Harley Wright, and Becca Gourley formed CrashFour in early 1998. Jake and Kelly, the two songwriters, had previously played together in an alternative rock band from 1993 to 1998.
During this time, their music matured and their songwriting became much more collaborative. They added Harley Wright''s complex drums and percussion and Becca Gourley''s violin to create the CrashFour sound. CrashFour has spent the last 2 years playing over 100 shows, writing over 50 songs, and recording an EP "Two Steps in a Harmony" and there new self -titled album "CrashFour".
Objective
We are currently seeking management, record label, and an agent. During the past four years we have learned a lot about being an independent band, the ever-changing music industry, and making and releasing a CD. After spending five years together, we feel very comfortable as an independent band, but we are beginning to look for a new challenge. Our band is currently self-managed. We each play many roles in maintaining the band, which competes with the time we spend creating.
We have spent 2002 playing over 60 shows, releasing our EP "Two Steps in a Harmony" and recording our new self-titled album "CrashFour". This hasn''t left us with a lot time for writing and creating. This is hard on a band that enjoys rehearsing just as much as performing. It is time for us to grow again. We are now in search of help so we can spend more time on the music versus running the band.
The Studio
For our first album, "five small steps..." we went into a studio to record. We learned a lot about the recording process and ourselves during that CD. For this CD we brought the studio to us. Harley recently moved into a new 4-bedroom house that we turned into a 24-track studio. This allowed us the time and comfort to create and record on our own. So by doing this, the recording process was much more relaxed and fun. This was also the first time we wrote some of the album while recording. This allowed us the opportunity to experiment more and explore other areas that we didn''t have time to do in the past. We also had Pat Storey engineer our album. Storey has been doing sound for most of our live shows for the past year and was very familiar with our material, so he was the perfect candidate for the job. We really feel this album has captured the live energy we have at our shows while still preserving the intimacy of an album.
Special Guests
We have two special guests on this album. 4Block Recordings artist rapper ELCO has a guest spot on the song "Bar Star". We also brought in the Borah High School Chamber Orchestra to play strings for the song "Dirty House". We had a lot of fun fitting 17 string players in addition to our band and recording equipment in Harley''s house.
