MP3 Porterdavis - Ep
Music that bridges the swamp and city...funky like fingers sticky with bbq sauce and urbane like the freshest and hippest city walking shoes...acoustic guits, moog synths, brazillian percussion...humor, love, sadness, love.

Rising up from the subway and their previous band the Daniel Barrett Group, Mike Meadows and Daniel Barrett have been reborn as the band porterdavis. Their evolution to porterdavis holds great significance for both of them, speaking for their equal and combined contribution to the band. The name also gives a nod to the Porter and Davis Square subway stations where they spent dedicated mornings playing to commuters, connecting with listeners, making friends, and honing their craft.
Inspired by the earthy sound of roots music combined with the urban edge that comes with doing time in the big city, the porterdavis sound is rhythmic and rich, innovative yet familiar. Their live performances are comfortable and inclusive, like sitting down in a warm bar, ordering a pint and talking with old friends into the night.
Daniel and Mike began their partnership after meeting at the release of the Daniel Barrett Group''s first full-length album, Shadows. Their commitment to the band was cemented when they both began getting up at the crack of dawn to secure a spot underground in the morning commuter paths. They played the Red line subway for 1 1/2 years, braving the grimy air and building their dedicated audience.
Their experience in the subway led them to meet a cast of wily characters, including the woman who tried to steal money from their tip jar because they were playing "evil, hateful music." The subway was both connective and humbling; they connected with corporate commuters and watched homeless men women drop in their last few nickels in appreciation of the music. In the subway they began to cultivate their dedicated following in the Boston area, filling venues like the Lizard Lounge to capacity.
The summer of 2002 was a big time for the Daniel Barrett Group, during which they opened East Coast dates for Melissa Ethridge. In the past, Daniel has also produced several award-winning Boston artists and played with big name musicians like Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul and Mary. Mike Meadows has toured with legendary Bulgarian singer Yanka Rupkina and a variety of pop, folk, and world music artists.
While porterdavis calls Boston home, their heart is on the road and they continue to tour extensively throughout the east and west coasts. Equally at home in the studio, porterdavis is currently recording a new album in New York. Incorporating a vast array of sounds, moods, and grooves, the new album promises to be as inspired and dynamic as their history.
