A young master of the Indian bamboo flute - the Bansuri
Binay Krishna Baral began his study under the influence of his uncle, Sri Herambar Roy, then under the guidance of Pandit Gopal Ray. He then continued under Prof. Pranab Mukherjee, Prof. Nikhilesh Ray and Prof. Deba Prasad Banerjee, world-renouned Bansuri Masters and exponents of the Indian classical tradition. This tradition represents the total and profound revival of the ancient and pure form of the "music of Nature" - Gandharva Veda, which creates balance both in the individual and in the environment. Binay continues to train under Sri Partho Das and Sri Nirmalya Dev, well-known Sitar Maestro and Dhrupad singer, respectively, and under the continued guidance of Guru Shishya Parampara.
Binay took an MA in Philosophy in 1984. Subsequently, HE WAS AWARDED AN INDIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP for advanced flute studies and went on to achieve an MA in Instrumental Music from the Rabindra Bharatri University, Calcutta, in 1987. In 1988 he was awarded a Bachelor''s Degree in Teaching (BT), while at the same time he had been performing his music regularly on an All India Radio (Calcutta). Since 1988 Binay has been on tour, performing in concert for Maharishi Festivals of Music for World Peace in England, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Holland, Russia, Israel, Scotland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, and Ukraine. During this time he has also been teaching and conducting workshops for appreciative students in these countries.
His fine level of performance of the ragas and his ability to capture all the subtleties of the Swaras, or notes, has won him acclaim from audiences everywhere. In Yugoslavia, in 1990, an audience of over 2,000 enthusiastically applauded his brilliant mastery of the Bansuri and the depth of style in his performance, and in Rome the same year he played to an enraptured audience of over 1,300. While in Scotland in 1992, Binay performed at one the world''s greatest celebrations of the Arts, the EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, where he received outstanding reviews. During his concert tours Binay has held many television and radio interviews: he has made countless hours of audio recordings for the Maharishi Channel (Veda Vision), which began broadcasting in 1998 from a global network of eight satellites that broadcast to every continent. These recordings include a special recording for the video footage of the historic and auspicious Maha Kumbha Mela, India, in 2001.
One of the highlights of Binay''s career came in October 2000 when he gave a COMMAND PERFORMANCE DURING THE CORONATION DAYS OF HIS MAJESTY KING NADER RAAM, FIRST SOVEREIGN RULER OF THE GLOBAL COUNTRY OF WORLD PEACE.
Pandit Binay Krishna Baral is currently performing and teaching at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa.
