We imagine you driving around in your car, jogging on the treadmill, waiting in line with a cart full of Yuletide goodies, running through the Beaus of Holly “Bodacious Holidays” line-up: first, John Lennon’s “so-what” song, but without the kiddie choir; followed by a jazzy Santa Claus Is Coming To Town , but you sing it. A country twang and vocal harmony in Pretty Paper gives Roy Orbison some stiff competition ... followed by a trip to New Orleans with Bob’s unmistakable vocals, countered by an alto trombone. The mood softens with My Candles, beautifully sung by Jonathan, and injected with just enough plugged-in spice. Bob is back and blue in Blue Christmas, followed by a festive trumpet in S’Vivon Sov Sov Sov. Next, Jonathan rips loose (for those of you who had any doubts) in Santa Claus Is Back In Town, followed by Bob’s heart-melting delivery of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, which gets you right into your comfort zone. Next, the carollers’ minor-mode favorite, We Three Kings, and then back to the soul sound with Christmas Just Ain''t Christmas ... (without the one you love). The sequence is joyfully “wrapped up” with a swingin’ Winter Wonderland, which ends with an upbeat cha-cha-cha. Bodacious Holidays is a ‘Boomer’s Paradise, but there’s nothing not to like for everyone on this eclectic album of holiday covers.
The Beaus Of Holly are: Jonathan Feldman, keyboards & vocals, Bob Miller, guitar & vocals, Steve Gates, drums & percussion, Nancy Wilder, bass. The album also features Paul Gaspar on trumpet and Katie Ernst on background vocals.
