Details:
The Beach Arabs are a trio from New York founded in 2009 by guitarist Liz Hogg and drummer Andrew Orenstein. After completing the line-up in 2010 with bassist Nathaniel Sabat, the group set to work on recording a handful of songs that would end up formulating their debut album, Under The Whale. Liz composed the ten songs on the album, with the exception of Snorlax and Jargonile, written by Andrew. With a variety of influences, drawn from prog-rock, post-punk, and some more classic rock vibes, the band has been described as having similarities to other bands such as Television, The Cure, and The Minutemen, nonetheless succeeding in creating an original, distinctive, and varied mix of musicality. The covers, painted by Andrew and Nathaniel, were inspired by the awe-inspiring sight of the giant blue whale in a trip to the Natural History Museum. The band is currently in the process of writing new material for a future EP, and has several upcoming shows in the New York area, along with plans of a 2011 spring or summer East Coast tour.
