Details:
"Described as eclectic soulfood, sweet jam. A real life musical romance (takes two oars to ''row'' a boat and make it do the tango) told through their music, the good the bad and the ugly…and the tasty. Butterfly, symbol of transformation… through something for the heart something for the intellect and a nod to the cosmic joke, not to mention grounded by the heavy molasses grooves; Music to lick and sup, reference to the sensual overtones in the recipe that flow generously enough to come back for more."
This album titled ''Bodhi'' (amongst other meanings: feet on the ground, head in the clouds) was recorded at their studio The Jam Garden by Joe Roberts, Melanie Williams and Daniel Davidson. There they wrote, recorded and mixed the vast majority of the album together with the additional skills of recording and mix engineer Mark Atherton (11am). The expertise and visionary talents of Eric Gooden (Temper temper, Bush and Boo records) were welcomed on the recording of ''Like We Used To'' as co-writer, co-producer and co-mixer, bringing in keyboard arrangements by Andy Williams, additional bv''s by Diane Charlemagne and drum programming by Ra Cole. ''Like We Used To'' was mixed at Elevator Studios in Liverpool with Sean Sinnott with add. mixing by Mark Atherton. Grand piano was played by Joe Roberts and provided by Pete Myers from The Legh Arms in Pestbury.
The creation of this album has been a multi-dimensional adventure. Entering an era of change in the music industry where the previous big budgets have been going on strict diets, this album was match funded by Butterfly Jam and Big Life Music. ''Bodhi'' was made through day and night shifts amidst the chaos of family life, babysitting, dog walking and communal home cooking. With a steady troop of faithful musicians and music industry friends to help it on it''s way, bringing their creative energy, laughter, light and inspiration (inspiritu-into-me spirit) to the melting pot…
The charismatic artist/rapper Killa Benz featured on ''Mire'', ''Brighter'' and ''Like We Used To''. The ''turns anything he plays on into vibrant life'' talents of Jimi Goodwin (Doves) on bass and acoustic guitar. Yvonne Shelton’s rich and dulcet tones can be heard singing through out the album. Phil Hill (jack and master of all trades) on guitar''s and strange recording tips. Drum overdubs, snare rolls, the goodwill of Jamie Muncaster. The deliciously fluid and flowing guitars of Greg ‘The Wolf’ Lester .. watch out …! More guitar contributions from DJ James Bright and the grab em, yummy licks of Paul Farr …check out his outro on ‘Feed My Soul’ revisited by a Daniel Davidson remix. Additional horns on ''Like We Used To'' were brought to the table by Alan (Phats) Davies on alto sax and Ronnie Darlington on muted trumpet. On ‘Flipside’ the ''rich'' bass was played by Sylvan Richardson and additional musical arrangements were by Steve Miller. Other performers include Claire Risley - guitar, and Mali Ellis - whispers, daughter of lyricist Yvonne Ellis on ''R.K.W'' (Right Kinda Wrong).
Come career rain or shine so many of the aforementioned performers … played for money ... then for love … both not to be sniffed at … Butterflies give many thanks.
Thanks also for the unfailing belief, encouragement and inspiration of soul guru/ AR, Mick Clark, Management/Visionary Goddess Rovena Cardiel, the advice of Tony Ferguson, all the team at Big Life, especially Tim Parry and Jazz Somers who made “Butterfly jam” ‘do it for themselves. Style Queen Deborah Ferguson (Contentmode) Also David and Gilly Montgomery, the late Roger Hill and Marek Duchnowski for keeping our head and hearts together. The Big Daddy Honcho Ernest Roberts and last but so vital, our mothers Val and Val. And of course the spicy ''SOURCE'' that sparks our creativity.

Heard You Missed Me...well I''m Back !
Apologies one and all for the silence ,it has been a time of change in The Soul Guru''s life - very positive and uplifting but change creates upheaval.
The best news I''ve heard in years is that one of the finest British Soul Albums Ever is now available . The album is by Butterfly Jam - otherwise known as Melanie " Sub Sub " Williams and Joe " The Best UK Soul Voice Ever " Roberts and is called Bodhi . It is quite simply an album that every lover of Soul Music or just Great Music should download now from CD Baby . Self-written and produced at home albums this brilliant are rare indeed . I will admit my interest as I have known Mel and Joe for 20 years and have always believed that one day they will get the success and acclaim they deserve .........now hopefully they will.
To hear Joe on the incredible " Yourside " IS the definition of SOUL , Mel is equally brilliant on " Junkie " and " Chemistry " but the album''s highlights are the 2 duets " Like We Used To " ( originally by Temper Temper and a potential worldwide smash in my opinion ) and the incredible " Feed My Soul " which is one of my all-timt Top 10 tracks EVER...it is that good !
I write this blog to try to give artists who I believe are good enough some help because I know all my readers have taste, class and style ........like me ...and will heed my recommendations . So please buy the Butterfly Jam album ,you WILL love it.
I will be blogging regularly again from now on folks ......and remember the Soul Guru loves YOU !

"if the rumours of a cosmic lovechild between Erykah Badu, Curtis Mayfield and the musicians from a backstage jam session at 1969s Woodstock Festival are true… Then perhaps Butterfly jam is that baby."
