Details:
Daniel Laubacher was educated at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he earned a BA, MA and Ph.D. in music composition with Peter Racine Fricker and Emma Lou Diemer and conducting with Varujan Kojian. He also studied at the University of Music in Vienna, Austria with the composer Alfred Uhl.
He has taught music at a number of international schools in London, Kuwait, Vienna and Switzerland. One of his specialities is writing school musicals ("Ray and the Pirates of the Lost Cove," "Turning Carbon into Gold" and "Racing to Chase Alice the Albatross" to name a few) and educational songs for children between the ages of 3 and 16. He has also written an opera for children called "Analykah and the Wonder of Shisura." From his experience as a conductor he has been inspired to compose a number of pieces for orchestra, including "The Snow Queen" (after Hans Christian Andersen) and "Guggisberg Variations" which uses a traditional Swiss melody as the basis of the composition.
The music of Daniel Laubacher is challenging, yet memorable. The melodies and harmonies are intended to sound fresh and new, yet natural and uncomplicated once one becomes familiar with them. "Christmas in Santa''s Village" was written as part of his Christmas musical called "The North Pole Pact." It starts off quietly and builds up to reach a high point by the end of the song.
