Dominic Oakes is a British singer/songwriter. He has wide-ranging tastes and this is reflected in his output. Over the past twenty odd years he has gigged with The Shower (rock/ blues), The Gobbstoppers (experimental rock/pop), Malika (Reggae) and the Crisis (Blues/Rock/Soul) as well as various duos and of course solo gigs.
He says that his greatest musical achievement (so far) was when a couple saw his song ‘Rainbow’s End’ at a gig and asked if they could use it at their wedding. He was shocked and honoured to hear later that they had used it for their first dance.
He is a multi-instrumentalist and music teacher. He has gigged, recorded and taught guitar, piano, keyboards, bass, harp (mouth not upright!) and drums and has had the odd toot on various other instruments too! He loves doing arrangements - Malika was a thirteen piece band and he did a lot of arranging for the brass section which he feels was a real privilege.
"Writing songs tends to come in spurts for me - as if my muse is a comet with an irregular orbit. I’ve written a mixture of stuff - love songs, angsty songs, political songs - even beautiful songs. I love the facility that recording software gives - I shall be recording and gradually releasing my back catalogue here over the next few months - keep checking in!"
