The Smile Again Story was born as a result of the death of my brother, Pat. For anyone who has gone through or is going through the process of such loss, you know the intense grief that is experienced. Each one of us goes through it in different ways. For me, it was about a year after Pat died and I still found myself in a fog, as though I was expecting the phone to ring and hear his voice, see his smile and hear his laughter. I needed to find a place to put this pain, I could not wrap my heart around the loss I was feeling. This brought me to my knees and I cried out to God to help me make sense of it all. My prayer was that something meaningful would come out of such great pain.
I was reading an article one night, where a singer said she was thinking about writing to express her own heart to help heal her pain. That was the answer to my prayer, the minute those words hit my heart I knew I found my refuge, I was going to write. I was going to pour my heart, pain, dreams and hopes on to a blank page. I had never written anything before but something in me knew this was an answer from heaven to help me heal. The next morning as I was preparing for my day, I felt my heart was lighter, I exhaled deeper and I actually smiled again. At that very moment I started to write my first song called "In Time You''ll Smile Again". The words literally came pouring into me and by seven o''clock that night I had written my first song. That is how the Smile Again story was born.
