MP3 Downward Facing Dude - Gun
"Gun" is Tom Melancon''s tribute to a vibrant but little known tradition of songwriters from Nevada. The songs explore rich themes such as drug addiction, nuclear weapons, gunfights and straight talk. The mood is light and serious at the same time.

Details:
"Diane" was written by Tom Ward and popularized by the Boston Wranglers, a Reno band fronted by Michael Clark in the 80''s. "Los Alamos Blues" was, to my knowledge, the last song Micheal Clark wrote before he died in the late 1980''s. "Gun" is a song I wrote after reading Cormac McCarthy''s "Blood Meridian." The idea of showing up to a gunfight without a weapon was a good analogy for some of the struggles I had before I found my groove a few years back. "Fallen Down" was inspired by the life and tragic early death of Michael Clark. I wrote and recorded this song as a student in the Experience Music Project''s Songwriter Certification Program. Jon Auer, stellar instructor for the third semester of that project, co-produced the song and provided the haunting harmony vocal. "Straight on Through" was written when I was still in the Corporate World, inspired by the trouble people get in by not talking straight to one another. Dylan Fant from 1Shot Studios in Woodinville co-produced all of the tracks except "Fallen Down" and played drums on "Diane" and "Gun." Chris Quinn did the lead guitar work on "Diane" and "Gun." All of the tracks were mastered at RFI by Rick Fisher. Lance Letscher graciously allowed me to use his artwork for the album cover and CD. Special thanks to Cretia Worster at Tea Tree Designs for help on the CD package and layout.
