I grew up in a small place. Life has been smooth since day one, with no hurts, no disappointments, and no suffering. The sun has been graciously shining its light on me to warm my every day… now let me rewind and correct this fib I’ve told. I grew up in a small place – that is true, however, I HAVE experienced hard times in my life, I HAVE been hurt and disappointed. It’s been through these experiences that I have learned that someone greater deserves my trust, my praise, and my life…someone…some thing…
I gave my life to Christ at a young age, and he began to show me the secret of being content in any and every situation just as Paul writes in Philippians 4. I grew up in a church that had some amazing role models; two youth pastors in particular influenced my walk with Christ more than they will ever know. It was in these teen years that I began to learn what having an actual “relationship” with Jesus Christ looked like in a practical sense.
As an adolescent, I began to seek my role in the body of Christ, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is part of It.” – 1Cor. 12:27. I quickly noticed that I had a love for God’s word, especially when it was sung and accompanied by harmonic minors and major thirds (for all you music people out there). It became awfully apparent that my present and future role in the body of Christ is to lead people into the throne room of Jesus by way of songs of praise. When Jesus states in the book of Matthew, “he who has ears, let him hear”, I think for me he really meant, “he who has ears, let him hear music.”
Today, as I play worship music and original Christian tunes for people around the Southeast, it is my earnest prayer that someone…if even just one…would have their heart shaken by the presence of God. Whether I’m called to play in a Church or in a bar downtown, I’ll go because people need to hear the good news of Jesus. By his spirit, He has left us something so remarkable, so powerful, that words cannot contain. He came and died so that we could have life…today. Right now. So let’s live.
