A Ruff Guide To..
..Has been in the making for two years and features among other songs ''Passport'' (aired on The Hour Of Slack and Michael Angel''s Cosmic Grab Bag shows), ''Customs & Exersize'' (played on Indie Radio Chatanooga), ''Overdosile'' (also played on The Hour Of Slack as well as The Sundown Lounge podcast and Jeso Free Music Groove show, and was made visual with the assistance of ''The Pigmeister'' from The Pilgrim Speakeasy Department of Impropaganda. ''Indonesian Childhood Favourite'' was featured on the PC Podcast with Pete Cogle and ''The End of The Line'' was on The Bumpskey Show and The Radio Orphans Podcast.
Like the previous Anarchitecture album (which was showcased on the BBC''s ''Introducing'' show with Tom Robinson and had a track used by Phil McKinney - ''chief seer'' and speaker on creativity and innovation) ''A Ruff Guide To..'' has a musical and lyrical directness and a dark comedy which deals with the realities of the modern world in a way which should be done more often.
The subject matter matters on Pilgrim Speakeasy''s ''A Ruff Guide To..'', as does the sound-craft which (as always) has an eclecticly global feel, but this is a new kind of ''World Music'' with a definite edge, and it''s from the world of Pilgrim Speakeasy.
Rather than theoretical idealism, here is a poetic blade forged in earth bound - sky reaching philosophy, tragic comedy and dead pan, aimed at slicing through boundaries with cosmic potential.
The music goes beyond any particular component style - (alternative rock, funk, world, electronic, psychedelic, experimental, accapella )- in the same way as the lyrical content goes beyond the mere documentation of the global corporate consumer predicament and its many facets that lead us further from nature.
These issues are positioned centrally on ''A Ruff Guide To..'' ..because in this desperate time for living things, that is where they belong.
The only way to pull off such a mix of music and lyrical content is with extreme exuberance and sensitivity which is how it''s done .
There is no better time for expression to be the source for the Evolution of ideas and the formation of action. And there is no better place for this expression than music..
So says Pilgrim Speakeasy.
Suffice it to say this album provides more of the same mixed up diversity as previous albums - Classic Rock, Funk, Psychedelia, Electronic, World all form part of the pie together with a lyrical poetry, but Pilgrim Speakeasy music is thankfully still without formula.
