After a solid classical training at the Conservatoire dâIssy-les-Moulineaux, and after having won national and international concert accordion prizes (such as the Castelfidardo Prize in Italy, the World Cup in Arnhem in the Netherlands, and the International Accordion Grand Prize in Saint Etienne in France), Philippe Borecek is now broadening the range of his musical experiments. He has been invited to play with the Radio-France Philarmonic Orchestra under the lead of Marek Janowski on several occasions. He has also taken part in musical theatre shows (such as OpĂ©raccordĂ©on by MichĂšle Guignon, co-produced by ThĂ©Ăątre dâIvry-CCAS-Conseil GĂ©nĂ©ral du Val de Marne; Cabaret Brecht, produced by the ComĂ©die de Reims; Le Petit Bal Perdu, by J.P. Viault, produced by LâYonne-en-ScĂšne), in operas and operettas (Vâlan dans lâoeil by HervĂ©, staged by Mireille Laroche and produced by the OpĂ©ra Comique, RaphaĂ«l reviens by Bernard Cavanna and produced by ARCAL), as well as in films for the cinema and for television (Belle Ă©poque, by Gavin Millard, with AndrĂ© Dussolier and Kristin Scott-Thomas) ⊠He has played with several singers, among whom Philippe Meyer, in his show entitled Paris, la nuit, at the ThĂ©Ăątre Mouffetard in Paris.
Thanks to his duet with accordionist Pascal Le Pennec, he was able to tour France and other countries (Germany, Romania, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia), and he had a CD released with SKARBO dedicated to the OpĂ©ra de QuatâSous by Brecht and Weill. The CD was praised by the critics (âThis feat was wonderfully undertaken by two key artists passionately fond of the music they playâ in RĂ©pertoire des Disques Compact, June 1999).
In 2003, he took part in the founding of the Quatuor Vagabond, and they created two shows for the Avignon Festival in 2006 and 2008, with the backing of the ADAMI and the SPEDIDAM. Newspaper La Provence commented: âFull of life, grace and humour. This is a delightful show.â; âThese âvagabondsâ or wanderers combine an utmost virtuosity with a staggering sense of comedyâ. The show was elected âFavourite Showâ by the editorial staff of Vaucluse Matin. Website https://www.tradebit.com added: âContains extremely poetical momentsâ.
In August 2004, Pierre Cao (an Internationally famous choir conductor) asked him to take part in the creation of Missa Ioseph carpentorum ductor for eight singers and two accordions, by French composer Vincent Bouchot, for the Rencontres Internationales de VĂ©zelay.
In 2009 he came back to his initial passion, and worked on a new repertoire he called Liturgical Accordion. The show was created at the Collégiale Saint-Lazare in Avallon during the Festival des Trois Muses.
In 2010 this recital was performed in a tour of Burgundy churches. Philippe Borecek was also invited to play at the Jennesdorf Stadpfarrenkirche in Austria, and the ORF Austrian television channel shot a report on his performance. He also played two pieces from this recital for the TV8 Mont-Blanc Sunday program âAccordĂ©on Passionâ.
