Details:
These two discs are a result of four sessions during February, early March of 2010. Recorded live from Pig in Saugerties NY, my present home town. The first session, marked 2/3/10'' I formed a Rock & Roll ensemble, featuring long time WET PAINT guitarist; Tilman Reitzle, also represented on discs; "7 Echos", "In No Name", "A Circling", "Periphery", "Emergency Broad Cast Child Line". Once again, as they created the conversation for "A Circling", Chris Bradley plays the drum kit. Bassist Daniel Grimsland (Jim Weider, "3") rounds out the quartet. As myself, Doug Elliot glues the "real time" composition on conga, djembe and assorted hand instruments & vocals. The second date Feb. 10th, there was a snow storm and Juan Quinonnez plays guitar and lifted, Daniel Carter; saxes, trumpet and flute & Don Pate; bass up from the city. Rounding out this ensemble, local Saugerties resident Ben Orick plays the drum kit. This hit, sounds like a basement session from Harlem; soulful and bluesy... though a lot like most of WET PAINT recordings/songs; never before, never again... sounds like nothing anyone''s heard before!!! And hard to describe, or find an anology??? Which, is a good thing, if you are looking for something indescribable, and completely different! Pate and Carter, along with meself, are the original trio, playing together since 1995, when the project was begun, back in NYC. They are featured on most of the cd''s from WET PAINT. Carter, made the journey up from the city for the next hit, also; 2/17/10'' Though, this time, backed by a completely different ensemble, which lays down a latter Miles groove. featuring, local Chapman Stik player; Micheal Bernier (Stik Men), Kyle Kelley on Keyboards and modulations; also represented on WET PAINT album "Emergency..." & Chaz R. Griffiths on drum kit. The final session on March 3, 2010, was definitley the finale and topper, for this run; Once again, seeminly, alike an Oddessey, or, more like "Odd At Sea"... Phoenix Rivera on drums (Peter Gabriel, Santana, Hilton Ruiz, SOL Sons of Legends) joins the group; Pate, Carter and myself; "WET PAINT" in 3d, original trio, as he had done so, back in 1998, featured on cuts, from the original trilogy; "Da Wave", "Let It Breathe" & "Open''in Flowa''". This night was special for many reasons; the first of course, for the music we created, and that three drummers, who grew up in the same neighborhood; the upper West Side of NY, were reunited. Ben Orick (sittin'' in on tracks "Got No Shame" & "Reprize") & Zac Alford (Bowie, Eurythmics, 420 Funk Mob) on tracks; "Mercury" & "Marrow". All very different styles, as I was honored to create space with all... Joel Newton made the trip up from Nyack, to lay down stellar chords on guitar, for this session. Jeramiah and Tuttle Sound Labs of Woodstock, recorded all of these sessions, capturing the spontaneous combustion, and mastering the efforts, despiking surges and electrical interferences, that proved to be "no small feet"... kudos to you''s, all n'' all. As per usual, the title of the albums are meant to be quadroupel entendre''; as when one is really "in the pocket", they speak on multiple layers of sediment, bulls eyeing the moments. Hence; "Sowa'' & Sweet"... should I elaborate; Well, alright; "Sowa''" meaning the joint we recorded in; the Pig, as usual, I find nearby "Livingrooms" where I presently live, with the local talents, to lay down and create within; the space usually presents itself, and then the sounds and formations of players come from this beginning. To "Sow" or grow, Phat or Fat sound, and "So What" (well, I just made that one up), but kinda encompasses the answer to nay sayers, who profess; "You can''t do that!!!" WET PAINT once again, does, indeed; create a worthy recording, sounding as if these folks had the "higher wire" of telepathy,. tuned in; listening and speaking, through their respective ventricles, creating a living, breathing being, through the music. I have always had a special affinity for Jupiter, and have often answered folks, when they ask me; "where are you from?", with this answer, and add; "The Planet"!. I discovered, late in life, that Rudolph Steiner had described someone as a "Jupiter Being". One, who is non competitive, and creates beings through thier singing voice. I felt that I was found, when I read this (Daniel Pinchback''s "2012..." the Mayan God (won''t attempt to spell his name; don''t wanna piss em'' off!) Anyway, finding the reference was liberating; like; "Okay, makes sense, why I was saying this all along... as some folks are not so comfortable around "non-competitive" folks. often misread as being arrogant, or "soft", or whatever, I have found. When, all along, it is just a more "connected" state of being; as if you are a blade of grass, or just a part of everything, oppossed to being apart! Ya dig? So, hence, my methods of bringing special musicians together, to create music "Tao-Gether". In the moment, with no "Sheet"... nothing to prove... and no poly zygoting of one''s egos, or "lines" saying; "Here, play this, man"... I guess one could call this form of music; Jazz? Or "Improvisation", or, or "Jam band", or "Free Jazz", or, or or ... but, the music can go anywhere at any time; Rock, Reggae, World, Jazz, and whatevah, bring it on.... so, I like to call it; "Real Time Composition". I have been saying this for years, and noticed a mention of this "form" in some magazine lately... I have not really marketed a single one of the WET PAINT discs, as of this date. Due to the business of fighting for my life and family, and two daughters through the ugly, disgusting, and demented, disenfranchising forum of Family Court!!! I have now, recently been awarded Sole Physical Custody of both my daughters, now close to 7 & 8. I dedicate this "Sowa'' & Sweet" to them; Sophia and Olivia; you are two amazing children; I am honored to be your Daddio! Oh, "Sweet"... well... obviously, the phrase has become a one word response, sublicating "Groovy, man...", and alike the most recent previous WET PAINT recording; "Sideways in 3 Suites", as is how the music usually comes about, alike suites, or variations on a theme. By the by, most of the music is just "time coded", meaning edited, or continuous creations, separated and titled, to make: "songs". I guess, that is the template, I must conform to? I never like to stop, ya notice? So, I will continue within the next "Album Notes" section for "Headless", which was a third disc from these sessions.
