Details:
Feldspar is the duo of Eric Bostrom and David Broadbent, two friends who’ve been writing and recording music together since the days they first encountered each other in grade school. From the moment they met they realized that they both shared a mutual love for music, and in particular the music of The Beatles. Eric taught David a couple of chords on the piano and away they went, penning their first song at the age of 11. They have since mastered a number of musical instruments and play all the instruments on their recordings. David generally mans the lead vocals but Eric sings as well and they’ve become known for their lushly fat “feldspar” harmonies. Eric is a certified music engineer and handles the console on all of their recordings. The duo also perform together in the Beatles tribute band Walrus Gumboot with whom they perform several shows a year. Apart from The Beatles, their influences are far too many and too vast to mention. As they like to explain it, they simply like good music and it is their intention to make as much of it as they can. Their eponymous debut cd is now available for download for the first time. Upon its release it was hailed as innovative and infectuously melodic. They display their vastly varied influences throughout the thirteen tracks on the album with music ranging from hard edged rock to evocative beat driven soundscapes to supersonic funk to a bit of old music hall to percussive world music, all with lyrics both inciteful and humorous. A bit of something for everyone, yet it all blends together into one brilliant concoction. Please feel free to enjoy their unique musical stew. Following are excerpts from a review in Soundcheck magazine.
“Third song ‘Destroy All Monsters’ sounds downright world-class. ‘Time has a stamp – the stamp has a mask – the mask has a sinister smile’, nice, eh? It’s got a Beatle-esque music track reminiscent of the ‘Strawberry Fields’ period. Quite a nice job for two guys in a home studio. I’m impressed. ‘Superstar’ is a great song and we stumble into some cool synth-scapes on ‘Empty Cars’, these two have a knack for melody and amusingly quirky bits. Here’s a couple of titles for you: ‘Candles for Spartacus’, ‘Tremors in Saigon’ (is that John Lennon?) and ‘The Ass of Tomorrow’.” - L.A. Joe, Soundcheck
