About Amy Loftus, The Nashville Scene wrote: “She is that rare find who sounds fully developed on first blush”. People tend to fall in love with Amy. She’s beautiful, and that certainly helps in this business, but it’s her gift for melody that really gets under your skin. Amy’s songs instantly hook into your brain, leaving you wanting more. Raised in Chicago (alumni of nationally heralded Second City), and trained as an actress and a dancer, Amy spent several years in Nashville because “it was the music that brought me there, the sense of reverence for the song and for songwriters. I knew I had a lot to learn about writing and I knew I could only learn it in Nashville.”
Amy has a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting and Art History but changed her mind about becoming a visual artist as soon as she sang onstage. In 2003, she began playing solo shows and working on the demos that led to her first independent album, “Straight to Amy”, produced by Will Kimbrough (Rodney Crowell) and released in 2005. Shortly after that, in a city full of girls with guitars, Amy was named “Best New Singer/Songwriter” by the Nashville Scene. The song “Work to Do” placed third in the International Songwriting Competition, (hailed by the New York Times as “the songwriting contest to take note of”). “Better”, a full length album recorded live to two track analog with engineer/producer Lij, followed in 2007, and warmth at Americana radio continued, including an enthusiastic welcome from BBC radio host Bob Harris. In January of 2008 Amy released Fireworks, an EP she co-produced with keyboardist John Deaderick (Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris). In November of 2008, a digital-only self-produced EP called “Peas and Carrots” followed. Amy toured out of Nashville steadily for four years in support of all of her albums and returned to California at the end of 2008 to take a break from touring. However, she is still performing locally and according to reviews, Amy is not a live act to be missed. One AP writer wrote “It’s a rare thing in LA to have a bar full of people shut up and listen. A voice as hauntingly soul-stirring as Alison Krauss”. Amy is presently writing a new album and teaching Vinyasa Yoga in the Los Angeles area. You can find her singing in LA clubs, or at the end of her yoga classes.
