Details:
Larry Sloan was born in a small town in Kentucky. At the age of 9 he begin singing in Church and on the local radio station. His mother purchased his first guitar, a used one when he was nine. Larry was taught several chords by friend Darrel Speck who played in sessions with Marty Robbins. Larry literally practiced to all the music he could listen to including Little Richard, Fats Domino, and the Everly Brothers. His mother bought him another guitar on his eleventh birthday and Larry and friend Bobby Daffron played in his first talent contest which they won doing a version of the Everly Brothers Bye Bye Love.
From that point says Larry, I knew I wanted to be a musician and singer. He played in several bands in his youth in several venues playing the music and singing lead of song sets from Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Rolling Stones, and The Young Rascals. After playing in these bands, and being influenced by the Beatle invasion, he would later go on to play and sing lead in very well known Midwestern and West Coast bands such as the Fugitives and Star Bound. It was there he met Roy Orbison who helped Larry hone his recording skills. Roy Orbison told Larry that he had a real talent for writing, composing and arranging songs, and a voice that naturally adapted to the song he was singing. He advised him to try his hand at producing. After working with Roy, Larry produced his first Album, entitled The Fortune. He later contributed his talents to many artist and groups over the years. These contributions included writing, co-writing, session producing, background singing and being a session and tour replacement musician for major bands when needed.
Says Larry, I truly believe that music was meant to be a major part of my life. I have been blessed to work with, in some measure, professionals that afforded me the privilege to be creative in a very tough business. Simply put, I love music with a passion. If I had not met Darrel Speck, I may not have had a successful career. The title track of this new album is dedicated to the late rockabilly artist Darrel Speck.
Larry plays guitar, drums and keyboards and continues to write. His latest contribution is writing, and producing for new artist Christy Ray and plans on releasing a new album next year himself. Says Larry, It is my desire to help amateurs and professionals achieve their dreams. There are so many talented artist that never really get the chance.
