Luke Parkin is one of the younger generations most dynamic and intriguing talents. His record archive is comprised of now 80 albums and is evidence of an unprecedented creative talent. Parkin''s potential is almost unlimited in its sheer breadth and musical radius and his ability to reinvent his sound with every subsequent opus number or album is evidence of a multifaceted, accomplished and prodigious artist. Luke Parkin''s facility at the keyboard was apparent at the young age of six. He has studied serious music all of his life. Luke has been mentored by some of the most distinguished artists in North America and in Europe. 2009 and 2010 were breakout years for Luke Parkin. His work earned him an international reputation in the high-test commercial dance world on one side, and the modern classical world on the other. Despite the notoriety, Luke Parkin admitted in 2010 to being personally unhappy a lot of the time while he says he "struggled to maintain creative control over his sound and his image with a new label, an interesting cast of record industry characters, an almost incessant output, constant travel and helping to manage the care of his two parents simultaneously diagnosed with advanced staged Cancer." Recent high-profile collaborations involve his work in the commercial world with dance music superstar DONS and record labels Unlimited Sounds GmbH, and Kontor Records. In Late 2009 the track "Breathe into Me," with U.K. top forty vocalist Moira, became a hit in Europe and Asia and was a featured remixed on the compilation "Dance for Life," a top selling dance compilation whose proceeds benefitted AIDS in Africa. In January, 2011, Luke Parkin was commissioned by Xtranormal Animation, in Montreal to work closely as in-house composer with the main creative studio. Xtranormal has become a viral internet sensation attracting saturation media coverage by all mainstream and underground media outlets. Luke Parkin is finalizing a plan to release an unprecedented 12 album package set in May 2011 and 2012 with his label partners in Europe that include his most eclectic and virtuosic set to date. Among the albums highlighted are PARIS THROUGH THE WINDOW and a yet to be titled album that is a pianist adaptation of Dante Alighieri''s Inferno from the 14th century epic poem, the Divine Comedy. These albums will represent the most vibrant expression in his range of sound to date. In 2006, Luke Parkin released WINTER JOURNAL, his most commercially successful album to date. WINTER JOURNAL was nominated for an OMA (Out Music Award Nomination) for Outstanding Instrumental Album of the year. Over the last several years, Luke has been featured in dozens of music, lifestyle and entertainment magazines and newspaper publications across the United States, Canada and Europe. In 2006 he was chosen to be the print model for the 2006/2007 media awareness campaign for the Tourette Syndrome Association of America. Luke has thrived through his struggle with Tourette Syndrome and is a living example of strength triumphing over adversity. Luke Parkin has also been affiliated with the following charitable organizations as Goodwill Ambassador, Contributor & Print Model: Tourette Syndrome Association America; Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada; and British Columbia Cancer Foundation. THINGS I DIDN''T KNOW I LOVED, a two disk CD set released in 2007, received widespread critical praise as well as radio play across the US and Canada. The album was a contemporary classical piano diary inspired by great poetry of the twentieth century. It features works by AR Ammons, WS Merwin, WD Snodgrass, CP Cafery, Gloria Fuertes, Ingeborg Bachmann, Inger Christensen, Theodore Roethke, Francis Ponge, Hart Crane, Octavio Paz, Nazim Hikmet, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Carlos Drummond De Andrade, Czeslaw Milosz, Edwin Muir, Robert Frost & Dylan Thomas. Luke Parkin has an image as an artist that is not what one would expect from a player in the classical tradition. In fact, Luke''s persona —constantly changing and reinventing from his classical roots to an edgy, left of center indie music star — is not unlike the artist''s music itself. Luke Parkin embodies an aesthetic which continues to evolve. He continues to reshape perceptions of what and how a modern classical composer/musician looks and plays.
